Supervision

Supervision

Professional supervision is an essential component of responsible clinical practice and continuing professional development.

The Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies (CPS) offers specialised psychoanalytic supervision groups for psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, psychiatric nurses, social workers, and other qualified mental health professionals seeking to deepen their clinical understanding from a psychoanalytic and object relations perspective.

Supervision focuses on the careful exploration of clinical material, unconscious communication, transference, countertransference, resistance, therapeutic impasses, diagnostic formulation, and treatment planning. Particular emphasis is placed on developing the clinician's capacity for psychoanalytic thinking rather than providing prescriptive clinical advice.

Groups meet regularly throughout the academic year and provide a confidential, professional environment that promotes clinical reflection, psychoanalytic thinking, and open scientific dialogue. Within this setting, participants can create a supervisory environment in which their clinical work can be explored through psychoanalytic dialogue, reflection, and discussion, while developing greater therapeutic sensitivity and refining their clinical judgement.

Participation is suitable both for experienced clinicians and for professionals in specialist psychoanalytic training.

Professionals interested in joining a supervision group are invited to contact the Centre for further information regarding availability and admission.
