Therapy
Therapy
Psychological suffering rarely develops in isolation. Emotional difficulties, persistent patterns of relationships, anxiety, depression, personality difficulties, trauma, family conflict, and many other forms of psychological distress are shaped by the interaction of biological, developmental, relational, and psychological factors. For this reason, effective treatment begins with a careful understanding of the individual rather than with the symptom alone.
At the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies (CPS), we believe that every person deserves an assessment that takes into account the uniqueness of their psychological history, current difficulties, personality structure, and therapeutic needs. No single therapeutic approach is appropriate for every individual, and no two people require exactly the same form of intervention.
Our role is to help individuals find the most appropriate professional for their particular needs. Through our network of experienced collaborators, we are able to refer adults, couples, families, parents, and individuals with more complex psychological difficulties to carefully selected mental health professionals whose expertise best matches the clinical presentation.
CPS collaborates with psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, and mental health counsellors who are fully authorised to practise in accordance with the legal and professional framework of Greece. Beyond meeting all professional requirements, our collaborators share a strong commitment to ethical clinical practice, continuous professional development, ongoing education, and lifelong learning within psychoanalytic theory and contemporary mental health practice.
Individual Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy offers a confidential therapeutic relationship in which unconscious emotional patterns, conflicts, and repetitive ways of relating can gradually be understood and transformed. Rather than focusing exclusively on symptom relief, psychoanalytic work seeks lasting psychological change by helping individuals develop greater self-understanding, emotional stability, and healthier relationships with themselves and others.
Group Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Group psychoanalytic psychotherapy provides a unique therapeutic environment in which interpersonal dynamics emerge naturally within the group. Participants gain valuable insight into their patterns of relating, receive feedback from others, and develop new ways of understanding themselves through shared emotional experience. For many individuals, the group becomes an important setting for personal growth and long term psychological development.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is designed to help partners understand the emotional processes that influence communication, intimacy, conflict, trust, and attachment. Rather than assigning blame, therapeutic work aims to identify the underlying relational dynamics that maintain distress and to support the development of healthier and more satisfying patterns of interaction.
Family Therapy
Family therapy recognises that psychological difficulties often affect, and are affected by, the wider family system. By working with family members together, therapy can improve communication, strengthen relationships, reduce conflict, and create a more supportive emotional environment for everyone involved.
Parent Guidance
Parent guidance programmes provide parents with a deeper understanding of child development, emotional regulation, attachment, and family relationships. Rather than offering simplistic advice, these programmes help parents think psychologically about their children's emotional needs and support healthier developmental outcomes.
Specialised Assessment and Referral
Some individuals require specialised treatment because of more complex or severe forms of psychopathology. In such cases, careful assessment and referral to clinicians with the appropriate expertise are essential. Our collaborative network allows us to direct individuals toward professionals with substantial experience in treating personality disorders, chronic emotional disorders, complex trauma, severe relational difficulties, and other forms of psychological suffering requiring advanced clinical expertise.
Meaningful psychological change requires time, commitment, and a therapeutic relationship built upon trust, professionalism, and respect. Lasting improvement is rarely achieved through quick solutions. Instead, it develops gradually as individuals gain a deeper understanding of themselves and experience new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating.
At CPS, our commitment extends beyond education. We are equally committed to helping every individual find the right professional for their unique circumstances. Whether someone is seeking personal psychotherapy, couples therapy, family therapy, group psychotherapy, parent guidance, or specialised treatment for complex psychological difficulties, our goal is to ensure that they are guided toward competent, ethically responsible, and appropriately qualified mental health professionals who are dedicated to providing thoughtful, evidence informed, and compassionate care.
For individuals residing outside Athens, psychotherapy sessions may also be conducted online, depending on the clinical circumstances and the professional involved. If you live outside Athens and are seeking psychotherapy, please indicate this in your enquiry so that we can help you identify the most appropriate clinician within the CPS network of collaborating mental health professionals.
